It is important that you make a detailed babysitting checklist for your babysitter. On this checklist you should make sure you have your child or children’s normal schedule clearly written down as well as some other vital information that refers to your child, your rules and what is expected of your child/children while you are gone.

Here are a few tips to help you with your babysitting checklist:

1. You should have emergency contact phone numbers.

2. Any allergies your child has should be clearly stated for the babysitter and you should also verbally inform the sitter of these allergies.

3. Leave your cell phone number and the number where you will be so you can be contacted at any time when you are gone.

4. The poison control phone number should be placed near your phone.

5. If possible, you should have a list of numbers to be called in case you can not be reached.
- grandparents
- neighbor
-close friend or family member.

6. Bedtime for your children

7. Bedtime routine

8. Daily schedule or routine. Such as breakfast time, nap time, meals, snacks etc.

You can add more to the checklist to make it as personal as you can. Be sure all of the phone numbers are current and working. It is very important that you consistently remind your sitter that your rules are to be followed with the children. Such as, no soda, no diapers until nap/bedtime and things like this.

It is also equally important that you remind your child/children that they are to be behaved with the sitter and treat the sitter the way they treat you. Also, reinforce the child, make sure he/she is aware of your expectations for their behavior. Your child should behave the same way he/she would if you were home. For example, not giving the babysitter a hard time when it’s time for bed and such.

A babysitting checklist can be as detailed as you want it to be. The more details you include in your checklist for the babysitter the easier it will be for the babysitter to follow your schedule, rules and routines.

Leaving a babysitter with the freedoms could prove to be an open door for problems with your child when you come home. For example, not having a nap could leave you with a cranky overtired child, sugary substances could leave to a tummy ache for you to deal with.
